Monique Polak’s On the Game, inspired by real events, revolves around Yolande, who is sweet on an older boy who spoils her. Her opinion of him sours when he starts setting her up on “dates” with other men. By the time she realises that her boyfriend is slowly drawing her into the world of teenage prostitution, she is in too deep to pull out. Polak’s cautionary work is hauntingly convincing.
